After looking at the cost's of a overhaul, fork service, new tires-tubes and some other needed maint., I decided not to put a lot of money into a 8 year old bike so I "traded-in", the 2004 Cannondale Adventure 1000 for a "leftover" 2011 Jamis Allegro 1, flat bar road bike! The Adventure 1000 was more a MTB morphed into a hybrid, I really wanted a "flat bar road bike", morphed into a "all purpose" hybrid so it would have a "little bit" of dirt path, (hardpacked dirt road) capabilities. Since I can't afford a decent "cyclo-cross" bike, I'm "building my own"! ;)
I was looking at a KHS Vitamin A to convert but my LBS had this leftover Jamis Allegro 1, so I'm having componets replaced to make it kind of a, "Porshe Cayenne SUV" of a bicycle. It will mostly be used on paved roads as my "utility" machine BUT, if we want to ride some of the local dirt paths, we've added "wider" more "treaded" tires (700x38C) from (700x32C-semi slicks) , changed from "trekking" gearing, (28/38/48) w/11-28 cassette to "mtb" gearing, (22/32/44) w/11-32 cassette since it won't look like a "normal" Allegro 1, I won't do "compare" photos till I get it home. Should be a different and FUN bike to ride in any case!! So stay tuned!
Feb. 04, picked up the Allegro 1, first here's a "STOCK" photo of the bike:
Ok, here's the new bike in it's "dirt path" makeover:
It's lite and fast and FUN, yea I know the "adjustable" stem isn't pretty but I'm OLD and don't bend well anymore, LOL! ;) Sadly need to wait for the "dirt paths" to DRY as it keeps snowing just enough to keep them soggy and muddy, rats.
B.J. :)
