June has been a busy month, on the 11th. we worked a rest stop for the "Starlight Spectacular", which is a "NIGHT" ride through Colorado Springs, CO. We worked the 2nd. stop at Bancroft Park on the west side, got there at 10PM. to set up by 1AM. we had the first of 1400 riders show up! We had a good time, the riders are really appreciative of the stop. Finally around "4:00 AM", we headed home, it's kinda spooky to ride the city at that time, it's very quiet, with almost no traffic (Sunday Morning). We got home at 5AM. and just went to bed, woke up about 11AM. and then walked down to the Black Bear Cafe for a big breakfast, it was great, then just "chilled" for the rest of the day! :)
Although we are members of the, "Colorado Springs Cycling Club", we don't ride with the group much as they ride, too fast for Jo. So we make the monthly meetings and help out at events the club puts on and our dues goes to support the Advocacy work here in the city the club does. On the 18th. we volunteered to work at the "FREE Bike Valet" at a citywide celebration called "Spring Spree" in Memorial Park. Basically just a free parking area for bicycles to get folks to ride their bikes to Spring Spree, instead of using a car! Metro Rides, a city function is having these "Bike Valet" parking area's a several local events this year to promote more bicycle usage.
Jo's been "commuting" to work, via bicycle more now that it's 40+ (F) in the early morning hours, otherwise she use's the City Bus as we don't own a car! I do all the "errands" via bicycle too, it's makes so we don't have to have a car payment, car insurance, maintenance, tires, gas, etc., which let's us have some "spending money", otherwise we'd be BROKE all the time!! Looking at renting a PU truck, loading the bicycles and riding the "Rio Grande Trail" in August, which goes from Glennwood Springs to Aspen, CO. 44 miles each way. Saving to stay the night in Aspen, YIKES, it's SUPER expensive!! :O Oh well it should be fun, hopefully they will also have the Glennwood Canyon Trail FIXED by then, it's been damaged due to FLOOD waters wiping out sections of the trails. Colorado is a strange place, it's flooding up north and in the mountains, yet we've got a serious drought and BIG FIRES all over the southern parts, weird. Well that's it for now, hope your getting in some GREAT RIDES!
